Packing and reminscing...

I have a huge list of things I hope to accomplish at my current house before the end of June...the biggest one is now checked off my list, that is a huge relief.  There are two other major things I would like to do, one of which is planned for Sunday night and the other will have to wait until I get back from the coast.

Speaking of which, in just 4 days I will be on my way to my new home for a brief, but exciting visit.  My possessions will follow me by just a couple of days and I will be living exclusively out of suitcases for the better part of June and all of July.  As I've mentioned, I'm a planner, so the chaos of suitcase living will likely be charming for a very short period of time and then grate heavily on my nerves.  Fingers crossed that I'm wrong about this.

I'm very excited for the trip to my new home for a variety of reasons...
-to get there I am taking a road trip with one of my best friends and we are going to visit some places we have always wanted to see, plus we always have the best time traveling together!
-I get to meet my new family...Corporation Board members, advisers and some women from the chapter!!! I could not be more excited to finally put faces with names and start building a foundation for what I hope and expect will be a wonderful relationship.
-I get to see my life long best friend who happens to live near my new home.
-I get to see the house, apartment, neighborhood where I will be living...very exciting :)
-I get to have a delicious In 'N Out burger.  What? It's a big deal, they're so delish!

My amazing parents and my wonderful little sister have contributed boxes to the cause, so I have finally started packing.  What I have realized is that despite paring down significantly just a few years ago, I have an enormous amount of "stuff" (mostly books and clothes) to move.  I kept telling everyone that this would be an easy move because I live in approximately 500 square feet so how much stuff could I have???  The answer is A LOT!  4 out of 15 bookshelves have been packed and I already have 8 huge boxes of books.  I have one entire lawn and garden trash bag (classy, I know! but flexible and easy to pack clothes in) full of cardigans and those are just the ones I don't plan on wearing in the next two months.  I'm pretty sure I have enough post it notes to last a lifetime.  Pictures, blankets, dvd's, cookbooks, shoes...lots of all of 'em.

One thing I/we did was make a one minute run through my apartment grabbing a small box full of items that would make my new place feel like home immediately.  So what's in the box?  A beautiful framed photograph of Prague (my favorite city), a framed signed cd and liner notes from my favorite musician, pictures of all of my nearest and dearest, some snowflake Christmas ornaments, a set of paper mache stars that I've had for maybe 20 years, an autographed copy of Richard Nixon's "Six Crises" and a selection of other books...a few of my favorite things.  In addition to the "home" box I also selected 4 photographs to carry with me through my summer to keep me grounded wherever I might be.  Home can be just about anywhere for me, so long as there is love, laughter and good friends/family, but since this is a time of transition, I want to be sure I have some physical touchstones along for the adventure.

After hours of packing I went to have dinner with three of the most amazing women I've met through my experiences as a house mom.  What a pleasure it was to walk down memory lane  with these wonderful people and have the opportunity to see them before I move.  There was talk of a visit sometime soon and I do hope they follow through on it, I love seeing them anytime!

So back to the boxes I go...wishing you all a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!
